The next Tech Night is Wednesday, February 28, at 7:00 pm at the clubhouse. Tim Procuniar, N8NQH, will present in-depth info on the spurious nature of some Chinese radios, along with a live demonstration. After the presentation, free testing of any handheld radio to determine if it has spurious output or not. The actual presentation and demo takes around 30 minutes; the testing afterwards seemed to last another 30 minutes.
A short PowerPoint presentation will be given explaining what spurious transmissions are, and what restrictions the FCC mandates on this. Then we’ll switch to a live demonstration of how to test and evaluate radios spurious emissions.
After the live demonstration, we will then begin a Hands-On testing of radios brought in by attendees. Bring in any portable radio you want, Chinese, Japanese, or whatever for testing.
Unlike the previous antenna testing presentation (doing A-B comparisons)… proper test equipment will be present to verify spurious output (if any) that exceeds FCC mandates.
Starts @ 7 pm promptly; Wed Feb 28. This will not be an all-nighter; the initial presentation is only about 30 minutes.
