{"id":2670,"date":"2026-07-08T22:15:48","date_gmt":"2026-07-09T02:15:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bellbrookarc.org\/wp\/?p=2670"},"modified":"2026-07-08T22:15:52","modified_gmt":"2026-07-09T02:15:52","slug":"july-education-and-tech-night-updates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bellbrookarc.org\/wp\/2026\/07\/08\/july-education-and-tech-night-updates\/","title":{"rendered":"July Education and Tech Night Updates"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Experience the World of HF in a relaxed setting<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Starting with the <strong>July BARC general meeting at 5:30 PM<\/strong>, we\u2019ll be setting aside time for members to get familiar with HF and get on the air using the club radios.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019ll have General and Extra class operators available so members can operate the BARC <strong>Icom 7300<\/strong> radios and make HF contacts with one of our control operators present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a great opportunity for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Brand-new hams who want to learn more about HF<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Members with little HF experience, or those who are a bit rusty<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Anyone who isn\u2019t yet comfortable operating a radio on their own<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>General or Extra class members who know the Icom 7300 and would like to help others learn<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One request: please keep side conversations to a minimum while someone is learning or operating so everyone can get the most out of the experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tech Night<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">July: MeshCore<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several members have asked for a repeat session and a chance to build on what we learned last time, so July\u2019s Tech Night will focus on <strong>MeshCore<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019m hoping to have members from the <strong>OKI Mesh Alliance<\/strong> and <strong>Dayton Mesh<\/strong> join us as well. Many of them are hams and have been actively working with these systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We\u2019ll cover:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Node and repeater deployments and what we\u2019ve learned so far<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A better understanding of which radios make sense for different uses \u2014 there isn\u2019t one single answer for everyone<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A walkthrough of building a simple repeater or node<br><em>(More details to come \u2014 I\u2019m still working out how hands-on we can make this one.)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">August: HF Amateur Radio \u2014 From Beginner to Expert<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In August, we\u2019ll shift back to HF and talk about fun things to learn and do in amateur radio, whether you\u2019re just getting started or have been on HF for years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">September: Hands-On Breadboard Project<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tom McClory, KE8FWZ, is putting together a hands-on breadboard project for the September meeting.
