On November 1, 2025, 9 am to noon, BARC will hold a Parks on the Air (POTA) at John Bryan State Park and Clifton Gorge, located between Yellow Springs and Clifton, Ohio. If it looks like inclement weather, call or text Jim Gifford at 937-718-6126 or email Jim at james.gifford55@gmail.com to see if we are still operating. Jim will also send out a cancellation on the BARC reflector.
John Bryan:
Address: 3790 OH-370, Yellow Springs, OH 45387
Coordinates: 39°47′28″N 83°51′16″W / 39.79111°N 83.85444°WFour POTA operators will set up and operate stations on four bands (40m, 20m, 15m, and 10m). The purpose is to allow those who wish to learn POTA to sit alongside an experienced person. We are anticipating Glenn Rodgers on 40m; Geoff Kline on 20m; Eric Bramini on 15m (at Clifton Gorge parking lot) and Jim Gifford on 10m. A jpg map of the park and locations is attached.
These operators will have the radios and antennas; in fact, we want to limit the number of radios and frequencies to the four stations..
What you need:
•To register ahead of Saturday on the POTA site [ https://pota.app/#/signup ] — it is not hard to do, and there is no cost
•A pad and pen/pencil
•Headphones if possible (Not a game changer if you don’t have these; we can listen to the speaker instead)
•Willingness to learn and have fun
•Ability to state your call sign slowly and phonetically
•Something to drink and a snack if you wish
We will be monitoring the usual BARC simplex frequency of 147.405 if you need to locate us when you arrive.
