The BARC Clubhouse is home to our Communication Center comprising 4 complete radio stations with HF radios, VHF/UHF mobile radios, tuners, bandpass filters, rotor controllers, and a Windows computer system with dual monitors. There is also one DMR radio station and three stations have SignaLink sound devices for VHF/UHF digital modes such as Fldigi and Winlink.

You can read a tutorial on using the clubhouse and the radios here.

The Communication Center is used for Emergency Communications for the Bellbrook/Sugarcreek Township disaster response team. The Center is also used for club activities such as contests and events such as Field Day or Tech Night. Members are welcome to use the stations any time.

In 2023, the club undertook an effort to remodel the Communication Center to make is more accessible during contests and to provide a demonstration station in the front training area. One station was moved to the front of the clubhouse and the other three were turned to face the back wall so that others could watch over the operator’s shoulder more easily. There was also much more room for the operators.

An antenna system is located on the schoolhouse rooftop. A patch panel is used to connect any radio to any antenna so that all stations have access to whichever antenna is needed. The rotor patch panel allows any station to control the rotor on either tower. A fully-equipped workbench is used to repair radios, coax, and other radio equipment. Members are welcome to use the workbench to repair or test their own radio equipment. The workbench has connections to a dummy load and to the antenna patch panel for testing radios.
