Have you ever wished you could spend an afternoon learning how to build an inexpensive yet highly efficient HF Antenna from a true expert on the subject? I certainly have…. your own BARC club has searched for just such and expert, and has spared ALL expense and determined that I could somehow muddle through and save some bucks for the club.
But seriously folks… come to the clubhouse this Sunday, March 12, at 14:00 hours and have some fun with me as we build 3 antenna’s that you might find useful and interesting. I believe John Westerkamp W8LRJ will be on hand to answer or discuss some of the questions you might have as we go along. I’m planning to build a: 10 meter Vertical Dipole, a 10 meter Inverted V Dipole, and a multi-band End Fed Random Wire antenna. This is not a “project build day”, so you don’t have to bring anything with which to build your own… however, if you see something you’re interested in and would like to build your own later (possibly with someone looking over your shoulder so you can bounce questions and ideas off them), we can schedule a day and time that works for you (group or individual) and meet at the club to do individual builds.
We will look at various options on how and why we’re using a “choke” or an “Unun”, options to purchase or build your own (yep, we’ll be wrapping some Toroids). We will talk about various uses for these antennas and “helpful hints” for their deployment and where they can best be used (your own Antenna Farm, in an HOA situation, or Portable) as well as how to “tune” your wire antenna and a couple of “Gotcha’s” to be aware of. We’ll be doing some soldering, crimping, cutting, and (probably) laughing… so come on out and have fun with us. I’ll also have a handout of a few references including where you can get the supplies you haven’t been able to find, and some truly Expert information websites you can checkout.
Last but not least… the BARC Guarantee: If you get bored with the topic or presentation, you can always move to a radio station and get on the air and enjoy yourself!
Hope to see you this Sunday!
