Spring Tune-Up

The monthly Operating Afternoon for May was shifted to Saturday, April 30, at 2 pm and kicked off a new tradition at BARC: the yearly Spring Tune-Up with Tim Procuniar, N8NQH. Members had the opportunity to test the specifications of their radios, optimize their radio settings, or even program their radios. Tim also brought a power supply tester to see how each power supply performed under load. Several radios were tested against the specifications and received a written report from Tim. We also found several good power supplies among the equipment on the shelves that can be sold at the Hamvention Flea Market.

A couple of members found that certain setting on their radios were not optimized so we programmed them to use the correct settings and then retested the radios. One member also brought a Pi-Star Hotspot and we were able to connect to it via WiFi and put in all the initial settings. All-in-all it was a fun afternoon learning a lot about radio specifications, power supplies, and service monitors. Thanks again to Tim, N8NQH, for providing a great service to the club!
