The August Operating Afternoon will feature a special tutorial on Logging presented by John Westerkamp, W8LRJ. As usual, Operating Afternoon is always the first Sunday of each month at 2:00 pm at the clubhouse (Sunday, August 7, 2022, at 2:00 pm).
The tutorial will focus on logging phone (voice) contacts. John will discuss the overall purposes for logging and give an overview of the process. We will then dive into each of the components including logging software for your home computer and then Internet-based logging systems.
A key component of Internet-logging systems is the Logbook of the World (LoTW) sponsored by ARRL which is free to all members. We will go through the (somewhat complex) process of registering with LoTW and show how to link it with your personal home logging software. If you want to register with LoTW, we will step you through the process on the spot.
Finally, we will also discuss other online logging systems including ClubLog so you can join the BARC DXCC League for some fun competition (not really a competition, just fun).
Once completed, we hope to make some Parks on the Air contacts and demonstrate the logging process with real contacts. If you are new to HF or want to upgrade your logging skills from using paper logs, join us this Sunday for an informative and fun afternoon.
