A group of intrepid BARC members spent the afternoon at John Bryan State Park on a beautiful day last week and activated Parks on the Air (POTA). After throwing up a simple end-fed halfwave (EFHW) antenna over a tree and attaching the feedpoint to the shelter, the operators got to work. All radios were operated off-grid using battery power. Paul Sharp, WS8R, Jim Gifford, KD8APT, and Glenn Rodgers, KE8LZD, all worked at least 10 hunters so were official POTA activators. John Westerkamp, W8LRJ, came along for moral support and to enjoy the afternoon.
POTA is very popular within BARC and we are looking for a member who would be interested in organizing a POTA Special Interest Group (SIG) and planning more outings. If you are interested in joining the POTA SIG, just let one of us know at the next meeting.
