It was snowy, but the weather broke and we avoided temperatures in the low teens with a more hospitable sunny day and temperatures in the 30’s. Winter Field Day is meant to challenge our ability to deploy in less than ideal weather conditions, put up antennas, and work the radio contacting other WFD participants. BARC operated as 4O OH (4 transmitters outdoors) and was on the air from Twin Oaks shelter at Hills and Dales MetroPark from 11 am until about 4 pm. We met all our goals except working for 6 hours continuously. We did get to enjoy lukewarm chili after the generator stopped working but it was all fun!
Special thanks to Jim Gifford, N8KET, and Glenn Rogers, WI8O, who organized the event, and to Bill Curtice, WA8APB, who copied the WFD Bulletin that was broadcast during the event. BARC ended up with over 75 contacts and 1100 points for our 5 hours of operation. Thanks to everybody who joined in as we had over 25 members stop by throughout the afternoon.
