BARC in the Park – September 13, 2025
Mark your calendars! On Saturday, September 13, BARC is heading outdoors for “BARC in the Park”
at beautiful Cowan Lake State Park. We’ve reserved the Dance Pavilion for the day, giving us plenty
of room to operate radios, experiment with antennas, and just enjoy time together in the fresh air.
Radio Fun for Everyone
- POTA Activation – Never tried Parks on the Air? This is the perfect chance! We’ll have multiple
radios and antennas ready to go. Whether you want to run QRP, pass the mic around to stir up a
pileup, or bring your own gear, you’ll be on the air in no time. - September VHF Contest – Test your station and your skills! Rules can be found here. For your
logs, the park’s Maidenhead grid square is EM89. - Fox Hunt – Sharpen your direction-finding skills in a fun hidden transmitter hunt. Bring your HT if
you have one (we’ll have loaners and directional antennas available too). Foxhunting isn’t just
fun, it’s a real-world skill used to track down interference, lost aircraft, lost boats, and more.
Lunch & Fellowship
We’ll be serving lunch at 11:00 am. If you’d like to eat with us, please RSVP by Saturday, September
6 by emailing ki5vnb@gmail.com so we can plan food accordingly.
Getting There
For the easiest GPS directions, set your destination to “Cowan Lake Disc Golf Course” (not just
“Cowan Lake”, that’ll send you to the wrong side of the park).
